Caves and potholes in the Alta Garrotxa geological unit
A rugged, wooded karst territory of the eastern Prepirineu, with one of the densest clusters of limestone cavities in the area.
Part of the Prepirineu major unit, dominated by calcàries (89 %). Its caves are spread across Garrotxa, Alt Empordà, Ripollès.
Catalonia has 159 catalogued cavities in the Alta Garrotxa geological unit, including 58 potholes and 101 caves. The longest is Sistema de les Bores del Borró (1,315m) and the deepest is Forat del Ginebret (55m).
