Characteristics

Location

Leaving Tortellà in the direction of Montagut, we soon find on the right the turn-off towards Sales de Llierca. From the aforementioned turn-off we follow the road in the direction of the farmhouses of Monteià and Orri; the road eventually becomes a track. When we have covered 6.3 kilometres from the initial turn-off, on the left wall of the track we will find the entrance of the cavity.

Description

Morphology

A 2x1.5-metre entrance that places us in a sloping gallery. On the right we find a gallery perpendicular to the main one which, after a short distance, ends in a pit with no continuation. Continuing along the main gallery, it descends among boulders until reaching a 3-metre drop that places us in a room of considerable dimensions full of fallen boulders. From different points of the room one can descend among boulders until reaching the lowest point, where we find a short gallery that will place us at the point of maximum depth at -28.5 metres.

History

The cavity was cleared during the widening works of the track. First explored by the GE Olot. In 1978 the SIEP explored it and made a survey down to -13 metres and renamed the cavity with the name Avenc de Roca Gallinera. Later the SIES explored it on 8 December 1987, making a new, more complete survey, and renamed the cavity again with the name Cova-Avenc del David.
