Characteristics

Location

We will leave the vehicle at the hostal del Bac and go to the house of the Coromina; following the same path we will go up to the next farmhouse, Can Biel, just at the bend that would enter the house, a path comes out that will take us to the summit of Montmajor, passing first the coll del Reverter and following the path in an E direction, we will need to reach the collada de la Costa. Continuing the path uphill and in a NE direction, we will reach coll de Galters and continuing again towards the NE we will reach the summit of Montmajor; once at the summit, we will have to go to the coll de la Bassa, and head in a NW direction along the path that would take us to the font de Montmajor; once we begin to make out the cliffs that will remain on our left (South), we will have to follow the walls in a W direction, until we find the large shelter-like mouth of the cave.

Description

Morphology

At the back of a large rock shelter a gallery opens ascending where immediately at the ceiling we find a chimney with no continuation about 7 metres high, the gallery continues ascending until reaching a step of almost two metres in height, at the top we find a small chamber where the cavity ends.

History

A cavity undocumented speleologically, surely known for a long time by the shepherds, since inside there was a cowbell hanging from the ceiling. In March 2026 Nil Hosta and Tanit Sanmartin locate and document it.

In April 2026, Albert Sancho, from Sant Joan les Fonts, a good connoisseur of the reliefs of the Garrotxa and the Ripollès, as well as being a collaborator of the colleague Ferran Cardona (ECMB) in the search for cavities throughout these areas, gets in contact with Tanit and Nil and lets them know that the cave that they have named (for lack of information) as Cova de l'Esquella, is in reality known by the people of the region as Bauma del Forn. Given this information we have proceeded to rename the cavity.
