Cova del Sust

Cova del Sust

Petita cova a la Vall de Bianya.

Vall de Bianya, La • Garrotxa14m2m

A small cave in the Vall de Bianya, with a gallery full of leaf litter that descends as a ramp and ends after a few metres.

Characteristics

Location

We will leave the vehicle at the hostal del Bac and walk to the house of la Coromina; following the same path we will go up to the next farmhouse, Can Biel, at the first very sharp bend, where there is a pole of the power line, we will turn off to the left (W-NW), and follow the path until we reach a point from which we can see on the other side of the valley the roof of the Molí de la Coromina. Then we will have to leave the path and climb without a trail through the middle of the mountain, heading for the cliffs that remain on our right (E). Following the cliffs along their base we will find the cova del Sust.

Description

Morphology

The entrance gives access to a gallery full of leaf litter that descends as a ramp; after a few metres it makes a 90 degree turn to the right and continues flat for about 10 metres until it ends.

History

Nil Hosta and Tanit Sanmartin located and explored it in March 2026.

Toponymy: The word Sust in the sense of fright is, according to Coromines, a fairly common Castilianism in some areas of Catalonia.
