Characteristics

Location

Leaving Tortellà in the direction of Montagut, we soon find on the right the turn-off towards Sales de Llierca. From the aforementioned turn-off we follow the road, which ends up becoming a track, in the direction of the farmhouses of Monteià, Orri and finally Can Polí or Pulí. From the junction of the track, taking the left-hand one that leads to the farmhouse, we find the cave a few metres along at the left-hand wall of the track.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, artificially reduced with masonry to preserve the bats' habitat, gives access to a single 20x20-metre chamber with a height that ranges between 2 and 5 metres. The floor is formed by a clastic ramp that leads us to the bottom of the cavity at -5 metres depth.

Other details

The cave is 46 metres long.

History

The first reference of which we have record concerning this cave is the one provided by members of the ERE – CEC, who explored and surveyed it on 3 December 1972, although it always remained unpublished and was known only for being marked on the Editorial Alpina maps since 1973.

Members of the SIEP of the CE Poblet explored and surveyed it again in 1978, publishing a record in their bulletin that same year.

It also appears cited, based on a plan of the Editorial Alpina (in a later edition), as the COVA Nº2 DE CAN POLÍ, which would be 9 metres long and would be located very close to the COVA de CAN POLÍ but below the track. This cave has never been located and the owners of the farmhouse are unaware of its existence. The colleagues of the SIEP, who also searched for it in 1978, thought that it could have been covered by the rubble of the track.
