Description
Morphology
The cavity consists of an initial gallery of 12 metres followed, in an orthogonal direction, by an elongated chamber, of 7 metres, with the floor on a steep slope in the final stretch. A couple of small lateral conduits of very short length can also be found. The entire floor of the cave is occupied by a clayey layer.
It develops in a package of micritic limestone of the Maastrichtian, this being due to the existence of a klippe, where the Cretaceous materials are superimposed on the Paleozoic basement due to the thrusts caused by the Alpine orogeny.
History
First mentioned in the Catàlech of N. Font i Sagué (1897), who calls it: Coves de la Serra de Nevà, saying that they are cavities of no importance.
We have no news until it is visited by Mas de Xaxars and Español during a biospeleological research outing on 25-9-1943, although there is an inscription from the year 1949 inside the cave and it is cited a few years later in a work of a biospeleological nature. Nevertheless, a biospeleological datum has been located that Zariquiey was or was provided fauna in October 1923.
In August 1953 it is visited and surveyed by L. Muntan and R. Pasant, members of the GES - CMB.
Also in August, but of 1963, it is visited again by J. Montoriol (GES - CMB) accompanied by Josep Miró, a resident of Camprodon, taking geomorphological notes, which give rise to a brief and unique article on the cavity that is published the following year.
In September 2013 members of the ERE - CEC relocate the cave and update its data.
