Montagut i Oix • Garrotxa22m11m

Small cave with 22 m of passage on the cingles de Freixenet, in the Garrotxa. Discovered and explored around 1993 by the Grup de Sadernes and Kim Agustí (CE Olot), who named it Cova del Governador.

Characteristics

Location

On the west-facing cliff of the serra de Freixenet or de Gitarriu, between el Treu Petit and the cova de l'Esparver. To the NW the church of Sant Feliu de Riu can be seen. Right on the boundary between the municipal limits of Montagut i Oix and Sales de Llierca. Approximate coordinates, without precision.

To get there, leave Sadernes and follow for more than 7 kilometres the track that leads to Gitarriu. Shortly before the font de Serradell, leave it and take another track on the left. Five hundred metres further on, at a collet, it forks and this is where the car must be left in order to continue along a path that runs level in a westerly direction and will bring us to el Treu Petit. From here the little ridge and airy edge must be followed also in a westerly direction and with no path of any kind. Soon we begin a gentle slope, which steepens where the ridge is most wooded. Soon the church of Sant Feliu del Riu will be seen to the NW and then the hidden mouth of the entrance pit must be looked for, situated some 11 metres from the edge of the cliff.
