Cova de l'Esparver

Cova de 27 m. de recorregut als cingles de Gitarriu (la Garrotxa)

Montagut i Oix • Garrotxa27m0

Cave with a passage of 27 m in the cingles de Gitarriu (Garrotxa), in the western sector, near the Pas del Querforadat.

Characteristics

Location

In the western sector of the cingles de Gitarriu. It can be accessed from Sadernes and going as far as the pont de Valentí. From here it is necessary to follow a more or less waymarked route that allows climbing the whole cingle passing through the Pas del Cabró and the Pas del Querforadat. Next to the latter is the cave. On the way there are sections where a little scrambling is required.

On all maps this cave appears located in the upper part of the cingle and has therefore been wrongly catalogued in the municipality of Sales de Llierca, when in reality it is in Montagut i Oix.

Low-precision coordinates.

Description

Morphology

The cavity begins with a gallery about 10 metres long, with a flat floor, which turns to the right and gradually narrows until reaching a narrow passage that, once passed, gives way to a chamber a few metres long but about 4 metres high and with a chimney in the very middle of the ceiling. At the end of the chamber there is a new narrow passage that, once passed, gives access to the last room of the cavity, elongated, slightly ascending and about 3-4 metres high.

Other details

Topography: We have been able to rediscover the original topography and we can observe a difference in the direction of the gallery between it and the redrawn one that was published in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya Vol. 4 (1980). We attach both in case someone has the opportunity to review it in the future.

History

Although it seems it was known by people of the area since remote times, the first data we know are those provided by the members of the GE d'Olot who explored it in 1972.
