A 23-metre-deep pit on the SE slope of Puig de Malveí (Beuda), explored on 6 March 1993 by the GEB.

Characteristics

Location

Located at the collada d'Espinau, a track branch heads S and after a few metres ends at the pla de Salarics, where there is an electric wire fence and a wooden gate, with a cattle grid (data from 1993). On the other side, heading S and parallel to the wires, a path begins that later joins the one coming from l'Espinau. After a kilometre we find a fork to the right that soon fades. Following the direction of this fork, about 20 metres away and 10 metres of elevation difference, is the entrance to the hole, located in the middle of the forest and beside a charcoal kiln.

Description

Morphology

A surface collapse of the limestone-clay substrate about 8 metres thick, perhaps related to the practice of charcoal burning, has allowed, after descending a 15.5-metre shaft, access to a main joint of N-S direction and one metre wide. On the S side, between blocks, we will reach 2 metres of the height of the entrance. The total depth of the cavity is 23.5 metres.

Speleothems

In a N direction, the presence of lithogenic formations can be noted: crusts and stalactites.

Progression

The clastic processes make exploration dangerous.

History

Known since long ago, it had been cited in various catalogues but without many references. The GEB, accompanied by Xavi Borruel, who knew the location of the cavity, explored it on 6 March 1993.
