Camprodon • Ripollès28m0

A 28-metre-long cave in Camprodon, known since time immemorial and cited by Font i Sagué in 1897.

Characteristics

Location

From Camprodon we will head to the Sitjar, continue along the track passing beside the church of Sant Bartomeu del Sitjar, and go to the stream that comes down from the house of the Seguer. Inside the stream and below us, between about 80 and 100 metres, we have la Cova or Casa Falsa del Sitjar.

Description

Morphology

La cova has a development of 28 metres, on the O10N axis, with a maximum width of 8 metres and a height of 7 metres. The floor is made up of clay and small clastic products.

Speleothems

A greater importance of the reconstruction process is observed in the E zone of the cavity.

Progression

We will go down along the path known as the one of a lifetime; about 20 metres before finding the stream, we will find a very large stone beside the path on the south side, we will continue about three metres along the side of the fence in the direction of the stream. We will find a gap in the fence, we must cross it and continue about three metres along the flat path, then we must go down to find a small ledge that can be seen below us (south side), always beside the stream on the west side. We will cross the small flat area, and immediately, on the east side we will see an entrance that leads us to the stream, we will cross it and climb a small rock (south side), we will go down it (the boxwoods mark the path). Just after going down the rock we find the other path there is for going down. We will turn west and enter the stream. Before us is the waterfall, we will climb it up to its foot, and go down on the other side of the stream. Before us to the west we already have the cave or casa falsa del Sitjar. This last stretch of the waterfall is quite dangerous, better to help oneself with a rope to avoid slips.

History

Known since time immemorial, in Font i Sagué already cites the Cova del Sitjar in 1897 in the Catàlech Espeleològich de Catalunya.

Joaquim Montoriol explores and surveys it on 26 August 1961.
