Characteristics

Location

From Camprodon we will follow the C-38 road towards Molló; after kilometre 13, we will turn right onto the GIV-5223 road towards Rocabruna and Beget.

Once we have reached Rocabruna, we will follow the road to Can Tadeu; from here we will follow a path in a S direction, which leads to the coll Samola and the castle of Rocabruna. Once past the Coll Samola the path descends, and just before climbing again towards the castle, on the left we find a meadow with the entrance of the livestock enclosure; we will descend through the middle of the fields in an E direction, until we reach the tip of the Cingle. We will follow it a little in a S direction, until we find a livestock fence. We will cross it and descend the slope of about 2, turning at this point to the left, leaving the valley that continues towards the S; on the E side, we will see signs of billhook cuts on the trees and a small trail of ribbons that descends through the middle of the boxwoods in an E direction; we will descend about 50 metres following the small trail of the cut boxwoods until we come to find on the left side the wall of the cingle (about 20 metres). Here we will follow the cingle clinging closely to it, in an easterly direction, but first we will need to tie a safety rope to one of the oaks that we have beside the cingle. The stretch that we need to follow is no more than about 5 to 7 metres, of which the last 2, the ledge is very narrow (little more than 40 centimetres) and we are at the tip of the precipice. Caution is required, especially the moment of crossing the rocky spur that juts out and that does not allow us to see la Tuta until we have crossed it.

Description

Morphology

The cave is formed by a single gallery 9.32 metres in development, with an average width of about 2 metres, ending by dividing into two parallel conduits of 4.7 metres and 3 metres respectively, which communicate through a low impassable passage. In this part of the cave, the ceiling drops rapidly until it closes it off.

History

Known since time immemorial by the people of the country, it served as a hiding place where they kept food supplies in different wars, in order to avoid the plundering of soldiers.

Explored in 1931 by Manuel Bassa i Armengol (Centre Excursionista Catalunya).
