Known since time immemorial by the local people, it was explored in 1931 by Manuel Bassa i Armengol (Centre Excursionista Catalunya).

In the Catàlegs Espeleològics de Catalunya (Borràs-Miñarro-Talavera Vol.4, 1981 and J. De Valles Vol.3, 2009), the topographical sketch of this cavity, by Manuel Bassa (1931), appears in the record for the “Tuta de Sota el Castell or Tuta no. 1 del Castell de Rocabruna”; we assume that a confusion arose in the interpretation of Manuel Bassa's text, since in reality the sketch corresponds to the cavity that Bassa calls “Cova sub-occidental del Castell davant de can Planes”, and which appears in these catalogues as “Tuta no. 4 del Castell de Rocabruna”.

Near this cavity and below the towers of the castle wall, the Tuta no. 3 del Castell de Rocabruna would apparently be found. Manuel Bassa (1931) comments in his writing that he did not find it.
