Caves and potholes in Travertins terrain
A carbonate rock that precipitates from calcium-rich waters, often at springs and waterfalls. It can encase cavities and form tufa caves, as in the area around Banyoles.
Catalonia has 111 catalogued cavities in Travertins, including 15 potholes and 96 caves. The longest is Coves del Mamut (537m) and the deepest is Avenc del Tall (60m).
