Characteristics

Location

Located in Figaró, you cross the motorway via the Pont Nou and must go right along carrer Ramon Mestre to the end, where you continue along the camí del Bac; shortly after, you cross the railway line and continue along the track for 240 metres. At this point there is a junction where the track curves to the left; you must follow the right-hand track for 180 metres, where it also curves to the left. From this point a path sets off and after a few metres reaches a junction; you must follow the left-hand one uphill. Shortly after passing the balma del Bac you come to a junction; you must follow the right-hand one, which leads to the base of the Salt del Prat. From here you climb up on the left to the foot of the cliff, where the cave entrance is.

Description

Morphology

At present the cave is entered from the base of the travertines that formed the cave, on the S side of the Salt del Prat. You must climb a steep slope up to the base of a 3.80-metre step; at its base and on the right-hand side there is a small, narrow passage less than 3 metres long, while at the top of the step there is another passage with similar characteristics and 3 metres long. Once the step has been passed, there is a ramp that allows you to reach a further 1.76-metre step, which places you at the highest part of the cave, +10 metres.

The materials of the S wall of the cave that run along the cliff are limestone, while those of the N side and the floor are formed of travertines; these have been the cause of the cave's formation.

Progression

Once the step has been passed there is a line of parabolt anchors.

History

Known since time immemorial.

In the past it was entered from the upper part of the Salt del Prat; the cave passed through the travertine wall and emerged outside again on the S side of the Salt. We know from people who had explored it that at the end of the nineteen-sixties of the last century the passage was still open. At present the sediments and erosion caused by the torrent have blocked this entrance.
