Barbot Negre

Cova d'uns 9 metres de recorregut a Sant Quirze Safaja

Sant Quirze Safaja • Moianès9m0

A cave with a passage of about 9 metres in Sant Quirze Safaja, with an entrance 24 metres wide and 5 metres deep.

Characteristics

Location

From Riells del Vai we will follow the carrer de Vallderrós to the bridge that crosses the torrent de Llòbrega; once crossed we will continue to the right along a track to the town's water tank. Follow the path that leaves the water tank, always uphill. The second turn-off on the left. A little further up, the ninth turn-off on the left to go to the Barbot Petit and the Cova de Vallderrós. To reach the latter, a few metres before the Barbot Petit you must descend, helped by a fixed plastic rope, and then climb a little up to the rock shelter.

To go to the Barbot Negre you must go back to the last turn-off made on the left and continue uphill in the direction of the dark-coloured travertines that lie above the path.

Description

Morphology

Entrance 24 metres wide and 5 metres deep. Inside there is a small cave that begins as a ramp at -2.3 metres and turns left, climbing up among formations and small gours. The passage is 9.35 metres.

Speleothems

The whole cavity has some quite large and spectacular formations.

Progression

The passage is 9.35 metres. The small cave begins as a ramp at -2.3 metres and turns left, climbing up among formations and small gours.

History

Known since time immemorial. It has always been located in the torrent de Bertí; according to the ICGC it would be the torrent del Traver.

We update the record (January 2017) since it has been detected that in the work of Collado and Sandoval (2000) there is a confusion regarding the name of the cavities described. What they call Barbot Negre is in reality the Cova de Vallderrós and vice versa.
