Description
Morphology
The cavity is found in the tosca that was deposited by the water that fell in a cascade down a leaning rock face coming from a spring situated above it. The cave has a comfortable route of 12 m, the floor is relatively flat. The eastern mouth is slightly raised with respect to the floor outside. In addition to the two mouths of the “tunnel”, there is a small hole slightly overhanging, “La Finestra”.
Hydrology
Although today the tosca is dry, at one time the water descended over it, originating a tunnel behind the cascade, the present cave. And, probably, it would still descend if it were not for the fact that the spring has been captured and the water channeled through some hoses that we can see on the facade of the cave. Also, within the cavity itself a spring is born, the font del Foradot, although it was found dry and with the spout damaged. About 4-5 m from the western end there is a good pool with dimensions on the order of 8×5 m that is fed by drips and by contributions that are born at the foot of the rock face. Curiously, on the SIS topography of the year 1978 the pool was right next to the mouth of the cave. This makes us think that the invasion of vegetation has been gaining ground from the pool in these last years.
History
Cavity known forever, very frequented by hikers. Paradoxically, from the speleological point of view the cave seems to have been half forgotten. In the year 1978 it was surveyed by D. Reig and X. Badiella, of the SIS of CE-Terrassa, but everything suggests that the survey remained forgotten in the club's archive without adding more details about situation or characteristics. So much so that in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya, by Jordi de Valles, volume 5 of the year 2016, the record of the cavity appears with the SIS survey and with the following text: “Cavity cited without further data”. All the same, the cavity has a more practical interest, since just above it is the spring responsible for its genesis. This spring is captured and its water channeled to the village of Mura.
