Tiny 5 m deep pit in Mura, on the west-facing slope of a ridge between the torrent de les Coves de Mura and the Font del Foradot.

Characteristics

Location

It is found on the west-facing slope of a ridge that was formerly cultivated and that runs between the torrent de les Coves de Mura and the Font del Foradot.

Access is gained by following the camí de les Coves de Mura; once past the drop of a beautiful waterfall, the path becomes level as it follows the torrent along its left bank; after a short walk, on the other side of the torrent we will notice a vineyard hut in a rather sorry state and of square construction; we will head towards it by climbing up to a small nearby crag. It will be necessary to cross a forest track until reaching close to the small rocky outcrop mentioned, which, once passed without much difficulty, it will be necessary to go in search of the ridge line where, shortly before arriving, there is a second vineyard hut with a round plan and quite well preserved. The pit, only 20 metres in a NE direction from this point, is somewhat hidden among brambles and scrub.

Description

Morphology

The small entrance gives access to a short drop followed by a second one, forming a little step no higher than 2 metres; halfway down, one can discover a second opening to the outside filled with sand and stones that makes it impassable. Towards the N and following the entrance drops, one will be able to continue with some difficulty towards the interior of a narrow 3-metre shaft where the cavity ends.

History

This small pit was mentioned in early 1987 by the Mura resident Magí Calvet. The members of GES-CM Terrassa, Joan Boixader and Jaume Claverí, went in search of it and it was not until the second attempt, on 12 April 1987, that they were able to locate and explore it.
