Location

The balmes are located in the Vall de Capçanes (Priorat). From Capçanes one must follow the camí de la Fou (PR-C 91) until reaching the Mas del Collet. Shortly before, the riera describes a pronounced meander and on a small cingle is the cavity, in the so-called Racó de la Sendal.

Description

Morphology

It is a series of balmes excavated in travertines. According to Llopis Lladó it is a fossil vauclusian phenomenon, possibly related to the nearby Fou de Capçanes. No topography is available.

Other details

On the map Serra de Llaberia by Editorial Piolet it is georeferenced as Coves de la Sendal and we believe it is the same cavity.

History

The first references are by J. Ferraté (1918). When N. Llopis visits the Fou around the year 1934 he also refers to this balma in unpublished notes, exactly as do the members of the ERE – CEC when they were there in March 1965.
