Description

Morphology

Consisting of a single gallery, artificially illuminated, running NE-SW and parallel to the ravine. Like the other nearby cavities, its origin is due to a rockfall on the cliff wall that was covered by the tufa, giving it its current appearance.

Speleothems

The lithogenic process is highly developed, especially in the final section.

Hydrology

At its end point there is a small pool produced by seepage.

History

All the small caves in the tufa of Sant Miquel del Fai have been known since the mid-19th century and were the subject of writings and poems typical of the period, especially by Víctor Balaguer.

It is cited in all works on Sant Miquel del Fai and in old speleological catalogues. Font i Sagué, in his Catàlech (1897), includes it under the name Coves de la Cascada de Sant Miquel del Fai. Faura i Sans, accompanied by Daví i Piñol, visited it on 5 July 1910 and already made a distinction between these and the gruta de la cascada, which are no more than small hollows among the tufa.

The only survey we know of is the one made by J. Borràs and N. Llossas (GES – CMB) in 1980.

Other cavities cited in the area are: Cova de l'Ermita, Baumes de Sant Miquel del Fai, Cova del Molí, all of very little importance and which for the time being we have decided not to catalogue.
