Small cave with a 19 m passage in Esparreguera, known since time immemorial and studied in 1972.

Location

Driving along the C-55 road from Olesa de Montserrat to Monistrol, at kilometre 7.1 take a turn-off to the right that passes the old spa of la Puda and follow the track —junctions with signs— until reaching Can Tobella (Can Tovella, on the ICC map). Past the last house (Can Benet), 80 metres on and to the left of the track, a well-marked path begins. At 300 metres, a small path to the right crosses the torrent bed to reach a small crag where boulder practice takes place. At the S end of the crag, practically one on top of the other, are caves no. 1 and no. 2 of Can Tobella.

Description

Morphology

Of regular dimensions in the entrance area, the height of the ceiling decreases progressively as one advances, until it becomes impassable. In this final stretch, on the left, a narrow gallery of short length opens up.

Hydrology

Fossilised spring excavated in Holocene travertines, dated at 11000 years.

History

Cavities known since time immemorial by the people of the area. It is not, however, until the beginning of 1972 that members of the Barcelona groups SE Gelera and GE Pedraforca carry out a campaign of cataloguing and study of the group of cavities in the area.
