Les Avellanes i Santa Linya is a municipality in the comarca of the Noguera with 26 catalogued cavities: 18 caves and 8 pits. Together they total 1921 m of passage and reach a maximum depth of 161 m. All the known cavities develop in limestone.
The Forat del Balconet is the deepest cavity and the one with the greatest passage, with 161 m of depth and 631 m of development; it was discovered by the GELL in January 2007 and is in the exploration phase. Other notable cavities are the Cova de les Caixes, with 239 m of passage and 49 m of vertical drop, and the Avenc de Sant Urbà, 57 m deep and with an entrance shaft of 17 m. Also noteworthy are the Cova del Llop, of 140 m, the Cova de Joan d'os, of 114 m, the Cova Patxarro, of 90 m, and the Avenc de Montalegre, of 32 m of depth.
