l'Espluguell

Cova de 77 metres de recorregut a la Serra de Lleràs.

Conca de Dalt • Pallars Jussà77m20m

A 77-metre-long cave in the Serra de Lleràs, with a large triangular entrance and the remains of old buildings converted into livestock pens.

Characteristics

Location

To reach this cave, we will leave the vehicle in Serradell; at the first entrance to the village we find a car park. We must find a path that passes above the Font Freda, crosses the Llau de la Font stream and heads East.

Along the way there are cairns and some paint marks until we enter a gully on the left, which climbs steeply in zigzags in the direction of Les Roques de Llenaspres.

After a while of climbing and leaving some paths to either side, we see a huge black opening on our left and a small path leading to it. In total, from Serradell we will take about 45 minutes on foot.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, triangular in shape and of large dimensions, shows the remains of old buildings that have currently been converted into livestock pens. The gallery, oriented NNW, is occupied by a chaos of blocks, after which there is an amphitheatre of clay and flows where the cavity abruptly ends.

History

On 27 August 1910, Racovitza, Jeannel, Faura and Rocafort arrive at Serradell. They visit: Forat Negre and Forat la Bou. They mention by reference, but it does not appear that they visited them: Espluga de Sorta, l'Espluguell, l'Esplugallonga and el Barbuixell.

The following day, 28 August, they visit the cova de Toralla.

Thomas Casajuana, in his, and possibly last, speleological writing (2000), makes a brief reference to a campaign by members of the Club Muntanyenc Barcelonès (Llopis, Thomas and others) carried out in the Serradell area in 1946 and which had remained practically unpublished. Among the cavities explored and drawn he mentions l'Espluguell, without providing any data.

On 19 and 20 March 1960 it is visited by the ERE of the CE Catalunya, with only a mention of the cave appearing in the magazine Montaña no. 60.

The first survey, showing only the plan, carried out by the GE Badalona, appears published in the report of the I Campamento regional de espeleólogos in 1966.
