Description
Morphology
A large depression about 15 metres in diameter. From the upper lip, and after overcoming a rise of about 5 metres, a sloping ramp begins (S-N direction) that ends at the foot of the lower lip, where there is an accumulation of clastic products.
History
Surveyed by members of the GES-CMB in May 1976, who initially called it Pou de la Foradada.
Contrary to what we had said in the first edition of this record, that it was a cavity known since forever, now (March 2016) we update it by adding a curious story that our friend Jaume Claverí (GES – CM Terrassa) has passed on to us, which Josep Triadó recently told him:
The story is as follows: Well into the spring of 1963, two couples from the CMB and the GES (at that time a delegation in Terrassa), Josep Triadó and his wife Mercè Mateu, Jordi Lloveres and Victòria Camí, had set out from Terrassa on a train at 2 in the morning and were going on an excursion to les Agulles. They arrived at Monistrol, and via the cremallera line, the cremallera bridge and the drecera de l'Àngel, they went to find the Coll de Port and Agulles path. Being a bit further up from the Plaça de Catalunya, they bivouacked on a small ledge a little below the path, to rest a little and wait for daylight. Between 4 and 5 in the morning, a terrifying crash and a trembling of the ground made them jump to their feet, thinking that the mountain was sinking or that there was a rockfall of blocks from the cliffs. Everything seemed to them to be in its place, and on going up a little and reaching the path, they found the monstrous funnel and things still falling!
Claverí also adds: It should be borne in mind that this event occurred a few months after the great floods of September and the great snowfall of Christmas 1962.
In 1960 I went as an assistant with my father, a semi-official filmmaker and photographer, with a licence, who was filming a documentary about the mountain; we passed along and filmed this path and I can guarantee that the hole was not there; at the end of September 1963, with some friends from Reus who had seen the documentary, we retraced the filmed routes and we were very struck by the hole, which cleanly cut the path, with vegetation and roots hanging, with the air of something fresh. Someone had made a precarious barrier with branches to alert passers-by.
Well then, it turns out that in the same place where the collapse occurred, there was already and they knew of a hole, or fissure, or pit, which was located further down, about 5 -10 m to the right of the path and below a small bank, and not visible from the path; when they came shooting up, instead of the hole or pit, there was the great funnel, which he says was deeper than now. He also remembers that, on previous days, passing along the same path, they had seen that this hole or pit swallowed a stream of water that came down from further up (the previous days were quite rainy). They knew the spot well and there, on a small flat area below the pre-existing hole, they made the bivouac, which possibly they had already made other times.
Consequently, would it not be this pit, which would have a not very large mouth, the unlocatable and ghostly avenc de la Foradada, which I and other companions had searched for in vain and of which I know no survey or any publication? Would l'Embut today be nothing other than the collapse of the old avenc de la Foradada?
