Small undocumented cavity very close to the Coves Roges or Cova Roja (Montserrat), formed by a large displacement slab of the cliff.

Characteristics

Location

To reach it, we will set out on foot from the rest area located above Km.3 of the BP-1103 road in Marganell, we will go back up the path that leaves from in front of the aforementioned area and that climbs until it meets the Can Maçana path (GR-172) at a distance of about 500m. We will take the GR in the direction of the Monastery and follow it for another 360m; at this point we will leave the GR to climb up a steep scree slope of stones toward the high reddish roof of the nearby cliff, and in about 120m we will reach its base, where there are some climbing routes. The cave is found at its SE end, completely covered by vegetation.

Description

Morphology

Cavity generated from a large displacement slab of the cliff. It has two accesses: the one at its NW end is completely covered by vegetation and this perfectly conceals its mouth; the SE access is much clearer of vegetation and allows better lighting. The comfortable chamber has a slight slope toward the NW and a small horizontal gap that penetrates toward the cliff wall. At the base of the reddish roof there are other small shelters in the form of rock overhangs, but much more open and without evident protection.

History

Undocumented cavity very close to the Coves Roges or Cova Roja, but with no relation to the complex.
