Description

Morphology

It is a residual cavity, one more case of a cavity decapitated by the evolution of the relief. At the site, the exfoliations of the walls and the more reddish colourations of the more recently exposed stretches are clearly visible, while the colouration of the ancient limestone maintains a grey patina. The scree at the foot testifies to the action of successive detachments and the shattering of the rock.

Progression

On 6 April 2017, members of the Espeleodijous carried out the reconnaissance of the cavity, indicated by Mr. Joan de Cal Caseta de Montanissell. It would be necessary to climb to check whether the dark opening of the dome has continuity.

Other details

There is a mystery about what the poles embedded at 15 metres of height in a currently inaccessible place mean. Unfortunately, the small holes visible there do not seem to have continuity. The dark opening of the dome, although it cannot be seen whether it continues, could be blackening by smoke.

History

It has been known in the area since ancient times. In May 1964, members of the GES – CMB, among other cavities of the area, explored one that they called Espluga dels Moros, of which they only say: Above the house of Fenollet (Butll. CMB June-Sept. 1964, p. 369). We thought it could be the same cavity as the Espluga de Fenollet, but now, because of the toponymy, we have doubts, although this one, if anything nearby, is not exactly above the house of Fenollet.
