Avenc Fals de l'Or

Avenc Fals de l'Or

Petit avenc a Castellet i la Gornal.

Castellet i la Gornal • Alt Penedès28m7m

Small pit in Castellet i la Gornal, explored in December 1973 by SIRE-UEC and resurveyed in December 2017 by Jordi Navarro and Montse Mañosa.

Characteristics

Location

On Km. 5 of the BV-2116 road that links the urban centres of Castellet i la Gornal and Clariana, we will take the descending track towards the Font d'Horta and Cal Bladet for about 180m, until reaching the Font d'Horta bridge where we will leave the vehicle and continue on foot along the path that starts on the other side of the bridge and heads towards the Font d'Horta.

We will go up the Torrent de Font d'Horta for about 700m along the marked path, about 50m after the Font d'Horta which remains on the right of the path, and about 15 metres before the balma de la Font d'Horta, we will continue along a very faint path that climbs to the left of the path for about 25 metres of elevation gain to the entrance of the cova de l'Or, located at the base of a small rise. Taking the previous cave as a reference, the pit is located to the NNW at an approximate distance of 30 metres, on the same wall of the cliff.

Description

Morphology

The cavity begins in the form of a balma; at the back of it, a transverse joint allows connection with the rest of the cavity. At the level of the entrance to the balma there is a small fissure that goes in a NW direction and communicates with the same joint at its lower level. On descending the first pit on a steep slope, we connect with the generating joint.

Progression

If we follow the joint towards the NW we will have to climb up and then descend some rises and end the progression in an impenetrable fissure divided into two levels by a block. If we follow the joint in a SE direction we will initially have to climb over the blocks of the joint, then overcome a flat-out passage at its highest point and descend again along the opposite end, until reaching the deepest point of the cavity.

History

Explored in December 1973 by members of SIRE-UEC.

In December 2017 Jordi Navarro and Montse Mañosa (Centre Excursionista Castellar) visited it and made a new survey.
