Characteristics

Location

On Km. 5 of the BV-2116 road that links the urban centres of Castellet i la Gornal and Clariana, we will take the descending track towards the Font d'Horta and Cal Bladet for about 180m, until reaching the Font d'Horta bridge where we will leave the vehicle and continue on foot along the path that leaves from the other side of the bridge and heads towards the Font d'Horta.

We will go up the Torrent de Font d'Horta for about 700m along the marked path, about 50m after the Font d'Horta which remains to the right of the path and about 15m before the Balma de la Font d'Horta.

A very discreet trail goes up to the left of the path for about 25m of elevation gain to the entrance of the Cova de l'Or, located at the base of a small rise.

Taking the previous cave as a reference, it is located to the N a few metres higher and at an approximate distance of 20m, very close to the upper part of the cliff.

Description

Morphology

Pit with a narrow entrance mouth of 0.3x1m, the access communicates directly with the main joint of the cavity with an average width of 0.4m.

If we follow the joint in a N direction, a ramp followed by two small drops places us at the deepest point of the north zone. Right at the base of the first drop there is a narrow passage that communicates with the secondary joint parallel to the main one; this one also has communication with the main joint in the south zone.

If from the entrance shaft we follow the joint in a S direction, another ramp descends until it initially communicates with the secondary joint. Then we pass a selective 26cm squeeze that gives access to a small pit that is easy to descend, which communicates quickly with the lower level of the main joint and the deepest point of the cavity.

History

On 9 December 1973 a SIRE team led by Angel Lagar surveyed the cavity.

In December 2017 Jordi Navarro and Montse Mañosa (Centre Excursionista Castellar) visited it and made a new survey.
