Avenc de la Figuerota

Avenc de la Figuerota

Petit avenc de 6 m. de fondària a Olesa de Bonesvalls

Olesa de Bonesvalls • Alt Penedès12m6m

Small pit 6 m deep in Olesa de Bonesvalls, with a large entrance 6 x 4 metres and a single shaft of just over 4 metres of drop.

Characteristics

Location

Going along the main track from Olesa – Can Grau – Olivella, shortly before reaching the ruins of the corral de l'Esquerrà, a track branches off to the left towards the old path of the avenc de l'Esquerrà and the current GR. After a very pronounced left-hand bend, continue to the next bend (to the right), where a path branches off that short-circuits the track. A few metres after starting along this path, a small trail branches off to the left that climbs towards two small rises in the terrain, between which the cavity is found.

Description

Morphology

Small pit 6 m deep. Large entrance 6 x 4 metres leading to a single shaft of just over 4 metres of drop. A short, gentle downward ramp in a SE direction leads to the point of maximum drop.

History

Cavity very well known to the people of the area. The first speleological visit of which we have a record was made by members of the SIE – CEA in November 1973. A few months later, members of the GES-CMB, during the work of compiling the Garraf catalogue, visited it again.

Our friend Joan Borràs mentions a first exploration by Rafael Amat i Carreras in the 20s of the last century, attributing to it a depth of 30 metres and that it seemed to have been covered over. We have no reference to this pit in the whole of Amat's work and we believe there was a confusion with a citation in Font i Sagué's catalogue where he mentions an avenc de la Figuerota, 32 metres deep and which he places in the coastal area of Garraf, known to the miners who worked at la Falconera. Of this cavity there has never been any further reference and it may be an error or a bad transcription.
