History
Faura in his Recull (1909) mentions a pit with this name but gives no data. In March 1957, Lluís Muntan with the indications of people from Olesa, locates a pit that he names Avenc del Puig Escampador, but on going alone he does not descend.
A year or two later, members of the SES – CE Puigmal (Barcelona) locate and explore a pit near the Puig Escampador and name it with the same name and from then on it is forever known as such. Emili Sabaté had commented that during the first exploration they found human remains, possibly of a soldier, since among the bones there was a button of a military uniform. The corresponding notice was given to the Guardia Civil of Begues.
Now it is known that the Pla de les Basses was witness to fighting between republican soldiers fleeing with Francoist soldiers advancing.
An indeterminate number of republican soldiers who died there were thrown into the pit. The owner of the place asked that the remains be collected and the Guardia Civil took charge of doing so.
During the visit made on 15-12-2022 by members of the group of the Espeleodijous they still found remains of human bones and they have been handed over to the Servei de Patrimoni Arqueològic i Paleontològic del Departament de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya and they will forward them to those responsible for the Memòria Històrica.
When Joan Borràs (1974) makes the catalogue of Garraf he makes the review of the two cavities and, what had been found in the year 1957, becomes named Avenc del Pla de les Basses.
