Avenc Veli Ii

Avenc Veli Ii

Petit avenc de 8,50 metres de fondària a Olesa de Bonesvalls.

Olesa de Bonesvalls • Alt Penedès23m8m

Small pit 8.5 metres deep in Olesa de Bonesvalls, discovered on 23 February 1976 and surveyed on 19 April 1980.

Characteristics

Location

Leaving l'Hospital d'Olesa along the track that climbs the fondo d'en Lluch, you must turn off onto the second track on the left, until it ends in a wide circular esplanade. The cavity is located 50 metres before the aforementioned esplanade on the right-hand side of the track, and separated from it by about four metres, heavily covered by vegetation.

Coordinates without any precision, these have been converted from coordinates using the Madrid meridian. Recently (2017), the cavity has been searched for without result; the current state of some tracks and the heavy vegetation that has grown since the cavity was explored 37 years ago make its location difficult.

Description

Morphology

The cavity opens to the outside through two mouths of rather scanty dimensions, the wider one reaching 0.75 metres and its depth is 3 metres. This shaft gives way to a short gallery where two shafts open, the nearest according to the direction of progression is a drop of 1.8 metres in depth, while the farthest is narrow and with a depth of 4 metres.

The 1.87 metre drop leads to a short and narrow gallery where at one end a new small pit of 2 metres depth is observed that ends in a small clayey floor, while at the opposite end we find a window that communicates with the aforementioned 4 metre shaft. This shaft also ends with a clayey floor.

History

The cavity was discovered on 23 February 1976, during a prospecting trip carried out by four members of the GEPEG in the area of the avenc de l'Esquerrà. It so happened that the previous day a heavy snowfall occurred that left the terrain impractical for prospecting. After an hour of searching they gave up, and returning to Olesa de Bonesvalls they made a stop to rest; meanwhile Veli, one of the companions who was there, while taking a walk around the place where they had stopped, alerted them to the discovery of the pit. It will not be, however, until 19 April 1980 that they return to survey it.

This cavity should not be confused with the pit of the same name “Veli”, explored by the same Club but that one located in Cerdanya.
