Characteristics

Location

Small cavity 7 m deep in Collbató.

We leave Collbató in the direction of the Vinya Nova. Once past the turnoff to the right of the old path of Montserrat or of the Bateries, one must continue ahead until passing a patch of forest where a new path comes out to the right that goes toward the olive grove of the clot de la Mònica; after this one continues along the torrent that one will have to leave in order to climb up toward the ridge on the right. Further on one finds the fork that leads to Sant Joan (which one must leave). Through a small gate one crosses the serrat d'en Muntaner and after a small descent one must continue along the torrent de l'Artiga baixa. On the left some zigzags lead to the ridge between the two Artigues (here the Pollegons can already be seen). The access to the canal de l'Artiga Alta is left on the left and, continuing along the ridge, we veer toward the torrent on the left (Artiga Alta). At this point, on the right, a small path amid the vegetation leads in a few metres to the entrances of the Pouetons de l'Artiga.

It can also be reached by doing the itinerary in reverse, from the path of Sant Joan to Sant Jeroni, at the height of the pla dels Ocells, taking the path of the Pollegons and l'Artiga.

Description

Morphology

It is a typical fissure in the conglomerate that descends in a steep ramp until it becomes impassable among blocks at 7 metres of depth. Within the same fracture there is another small shaft that descends to -6 metres.

History

It is certainly the cavity mentioned in the old catalogues with the only citation of: l'Artiga. In 1990 members of the SIS del CE Terrassa locate and survey it, calling it Pouetó dels Aritjols, since Joan Boixader (e.p.r.) of the GES – CM Terrassa had said that a little further west there was another hole that could be the one of l'Artiga.

Years later, the colleagues of the SIE (the Ferro's) locate it again and, faced with the doubt, speak with P. Ramon Ribera-Mariné (then prior of the Monastery) and he confirms to them that the monks have always thought that this is the hole of l'Artiga.
