Pou de la Sajolida

Pou de la Sajolida

Avenc de 29 m. de profunditat al municipi de Collbató

Collbató • Baix Llobregat45m29m

A 29 m deep pit in the municipality of Collbató, in Montserrat conglomerates, with a narrow entrance leading to a vertical shaft and a final crawlway that was cleared in the summer of 2009.

Characteristics

Location

The most convenient access is from the camí de Sant Joan to Sant Jeroni until reaching the so-called camí del Pont (on the left), which descends rapidly towards the southwest for about a kilometre, until reaching a small ridge from where the clot de la Sajolida can be seen. The path, after a left-hand bend, descends rapidly again towards the torrent del Pont. A hundred metres before this bend and about 3 metres to the right, below the path, is the pit, surrounded by holm oaks. Access can also be made from Collbató, taking the camí del Pont from the Vinya Nova, but the elevation gain to climb is 500 metres.

Description

Morphology

A narrow and somewhat elongated entrance gives access to a narrow shaft (maximum width 0.9 m) that descends to some blocks wedged in the walls (elevation -10) and which, once passed, continues vertically to 20.5 metres. In this last section it gains a little width and its length is more considerable. At the foot of the descent point a short ramp begins between sediments and detritus that close the pit at 23 metres depth. A cavity located in a typical megaclase of the Montserrat conglomerates, with a direction of N30E – S30O.

Progression

Once the final crawlway has been passed by clearing (summer 2009), a 5-metre drop can be descended that gives access to a short gallery that ends a few metres further on at elevation -29.

History

The first mention of this cavity is in the Recull Espeleològic de Catalunya (M. Faura i Sans, 1909), providing nothing more than the name. The first exploration of which we have a record is the one carried out by members of the ERE (AEC) towards the end of 1952, who were accompanied by some monks from the monastery in order to locate it. In the aforementioned Recull by Faura there also appears a certain avenc de la Serra de les Paparres, to which it attributes 21 metres of depth. It is possible that it could be the same pou de la Sajolida. Around 2006 rumours were heard that someone had managed to clear the bottom of the pit and gained depth. Since then we had had no kind of confirmation of this fact, and it is not until the summer of 2009 that members of the GES – CM Terrassa manage to pass the final point and gain 7 metres of depth.
