Espectacular esquerda a la paret dels Diables (Montserrat), al municipi de Marganell.

Marganell • Bages40m20m

Spectacular fissure in the Paret dels Diables (Montserrat), in the municipality of Marganell, about 30 metres high by about 4 metres wide.

Characteristics

Location

The escletxa dels Teixos is located on one side of the imposing and majestic Paret dels Diables, very close to the Cavall Bernat. It lies almost below the old garden of the ermita de Sant Antoni.

To reach it we take the camí de l'Arrel and when we reach the height of the Paret dels Diables, where the path widens (a few metres before an old charcoal kiln) we find a small trail in the direction of the wall, which we skirt upwards.

We climb a rise, reach the base of the wall and traverse to the left until we reach the gully where the escletxa dels Teixos is found.

History

Cavity known since time immemorial. In the 50s, the sight of the fissure from the road began to arouse the curiosity of Pare Guiu Camps. Accompanied by a group of monks he explored it around the year 1957, not knowing any name for it and before the contemplation of the beautiful yew forest at its base, they named it escletxa dels Teixos.

Members of the GES – CMB explored and surveyed it in December 1975.

We have evidence that in the year 1961, other members of the GES explored a cavity that they named cova de la Paret dels Diables, and very possibly it is the same one as the escletxa dels Teixos.
