Description

Morphology

The cave consists of a main gallery, oriented from NE to SW, about 40 metres long and 9 metres wide on average, with a side chamber to the NW of 10x5 metres and a 6-metre shaft to the SW that allows access through the roof to another chamber of 6x9 metres. At 6 metres from the entrance, a second gallery on a steep slope connects with two chambers, also on a downward slope; the first has a second access to the main gallery. The second, 12x9 metres, is the largest chamber in the cave, and at its far end there is a small vertical continuation that allows reaching the maximum depth at -21 metres.

Speleothems

The first chamber is dominated by the fossil lithogenic process, in the form of large columns that form different pseudogalleries.

History

Known since time immemorial by the people of the region. Mentioned by Font i Sagué in his catalogue (1897), calling it Lo Forich, while stating that he has no data about it. An important Neolithic site, excavated, among others, by Joan Maluquer de Motes. We also know of the visit for biospeleological purposes by F.Español and F.Montsonís on 2 November 1968.
