Cova de 80 metres de recorregut a Abella de la Conca

Abella de la Conca • Pallars Jussà80m14m

An 80-metre-long cave in Abella de la Conca, with an entrance of about 23x6 metres and an ascending gallery towards the east.

Characteristics

Location

About 300 metres before reaching the village of Abella de la Conca, on the left, a track leads to can Xinco and cal Borrell. Shortly before reaching the private entrance of the latter, a turn-off appears on the right with a sign indicating towards Sant Corneli. You pass close by cal Borrell and continue about 200 metres further to a left-hand bend with a good esplanade where cars can be left. To the NE, a path climbs up until it reaches the track that penetrates the gorge and, shortly after following it, on the right, a monolith rock appears (Pedra Ficada). From this point you must start climbing, almost without a path, in the direction of the upper cliff where, to the left of the torrent (hydrographic right), an important, relatively recent landslide can be seen, which has covered a good part of the slope with enormous blocks. You must keep climbing until you find an enormous block and, from there, head towards the base of the cliff on the right according to the direction of travel, where the wide entrance of the cavity is found.

Description

Morphology

An entrance of about 23x6 metres with a gallery that continues in an easterly direction, slightly ascending and maintaining the same dimensions as the entrance up to 40 metres, where a large flowstone must be climbed over. Once up, the gallery turns towards the north-east and continues climbing until it closes. In the entrance gallery, on the north side, there is a large pile-up of blocks; behind these is a parallel gallery that has a small and impracticable opening to the outside.

History

Known forever by the local people. The first reference of speleological exploration corresponds to the SIE del CEA in 1965.
