Espluga Petita del Congost

Cova de 38 metres de recorregut a Abella de la Conca

Abella de la Conca • Pallars Jussà38m2m

A 38-metre-long cave in Abella de la Conca, long known to local people and first explored by the SIE del CEA in 1965.

Characteristics

Location

About 300 metres before reaching the village of Abella de la Conca, on the left, a track leads to can Xinco and cal Borrell. Shortly before reaching the private entrance of the latter, a turn-off appears on the right with a sign pointing towards Sant Corneli. You pass right by cal Borrell and continue about 200 metres more to a left-hand bend with a good open area to leave the cars. To the NE, a path climbs up to the track that enters the gorge, and shortly after following it, on the right, a monolith rock appears (Pedra Ficada). From this point you must start climbing, almost without a path, in the direction of the upper cliff where, to the left of the torrent (hydrographic right), a major, relatively recent landslide can be seen, which has covered a good part of the slope with enormous blocks. Continue climbing until you find an enormous block, and from there head towards the base of the cliff on the right according to the direction of travel, where the wide mouth of the Espluga del Congost is located; three metres to the right of it we find the Espluga Petita del Congost.
