Balma del Congost

Balma de 9 metres de recorregut a Abella de la Conca

Abella de la Conca • Pallars Jussà9m3m

A 9-metre-long rock shelter in Abella de la Conca, with an entrance of about 25x3 metres and a small water supply.

Characteristics

Location

About 300 metres before reaching the village of Abella de la Conca, on the left, a track leads to can Xinco and cal Borrell. Shortly before reaching the private entrance of the latter, a turn-off appears on the right with a sign indicating towards Sant Corneli. You pass close by cal Borrell and continue for about 200 metres more to a left-hand bend with a good esplanade where cars can be left. To the NE, a path climbs up until reaching the track that enters the gorge, and shortly after following it, on the right, a monolith rock appears (Pedra Ficada).

Description

Morphology

Entrance of about 25x3 metres and 9 metres deep.

Hydrology

With a small water supply.

Progression

From this point you must begin to climb, almost without a path, in the direction of the upper cliff where, to the left of the torrent (hydrographic right), a major, relatively recent landslide can be seen, which has covered a good part of the slope with enormous blocks. You must keep climbing almost to the landslide, since the rock shelter is located a few metres to the right of it at the foot of the cliff.

History

Known forever by the local people. The first reference of speleological exploration corresponds to the SIE del CEA in 1965.
