Marganell • Bages17m10m

An ascending fissure in the la Foradada sector (Montserrat), a crack of some 18m between the Gallaret and Capeta needles, suspended about 5m above the base of the cliff.

Characteristics

Location

Ascending fissure in the la Foradada sector (Montserrat). To reach it, we will set out on foot from the rest area located above Km.3 of the BP-1103 road from Marganell. We will go up the path that starts in front of the aforementioned area and climbs until it meets the Can Maçana path (GR-172) some 500m away. We will take the GR in the direction of Can Maçana for another 550m; at this point, having already passed the turn-off to Coll de Port, we will leave the GR to climb up the bed of a steeply sloping stream to the base of the Gallaret, Ignasi Capeta and la Foradada needles; the crevice is found in the fissure between the Gallaret and Capeta needles.

Description

Morphology

Cavity generated by the displacement between two needles, creating a fissure that is approximately 18m high. This fissure is suspended about 5m above the base of the cliff. The fissure has two levels separated by a large wedged block. The lower level beneath the block is made up of a narrow gallery on a steep slope. The upper level, of wider dimensions than the lower one, has a floor on a steep slope partially occupied by a second tree, which conceals the end of the gallery in various impenetrable passages at different levels.

Progression

An initial climb will be necessary to reach the base of the fissure. At the base of the lower level there is a small tree that perfectly conceals the lower opening. A second climb of some 6m will be necessary to access the upper level.
