Location

On the left bank of the riera de la Llacuna before passing through the hamlet of Rofes. About 250 metres downstream from the font del Teix and about 20 metres above the bed of the riera.

On the ICGC map the Font del Teix appears referenced twice in this sector, but it is not actually located at either of them. The exact location is: X: 380107; Y: 4593824

Description

Morphology

The entrance of the cavity is horizontal with a length of 6 metres by 1 in height. On its right-hand part there is a very narrow and low gallery about 4 metres long that immediately becomes impassable.

Slightly below this cave there is another formed by a short gallery 3.5 metres long, 1.2 metres wide and 1 metre high, ending in a wedge.

Other details

The floor of both caves is covered with dusty earth.

History

Known since remote times. The few data we know are those given by members of the GREV – Biblioteca-Museu Víctor Balaguer (Vilanova i la Geltrú) who visited them around 1985.

We suspect they could be the same ones that in the Inventari del Patrimoni Arqueològic de la Generalitat de Catalunya appear cited as Cova sobre la Font del Teix, but we do not have enough data to be sure.
