Characteristics

Location

Near km 17, 5 on the BP-2121 road from Vilafranca to la Llacuna, shortly before reaching the font Trobada and Mas Rovira, one must descend toward the Foix river (which at this point is called the riera de Dosrius) and halfway along, in a jumble of blocks between a cliff and a monolith, the cavity is found.

Description

Morphology

Right in the middle of a platform of blocks lies this small concavity about 4 metres deep, with the final section raised one metre above the entrance level. At the E end of this platform there is yet another small concavity formed between a large slab that rests on the monolith.

History

Cited by J. Virella in his collection of cavities of the Penedès (1978). In January 1986 it is visited by members of SIRE – UEC Sants, who make a sketch of the whole. However, during Holy Week of 1972, a group from SIE – CEA surveyed a small cave that they called Cova de la Riera and which, judging by the survey (hitherto unpublished) and the location, is almost certainly the same cavity, although it seems only the E-F section of Genar Aymamí's sketch is represented.
