Characteristics

Location

From Torrelles de Foix we will take the BV-2122 road towards Pontons; after km 4, we will turn right towards the la Plana de les Torres residential area. Before reaching it, we will turn right towards the sanctuary of el Foix. Later we take a dirt track, on the left, that will lead us to the farmhouse cal Rossell de les Bassegues, better known as cal Cònsol. Here we will leave the vehicles. If we have a good 4×4, we can risk continuing along the track towards cal Sord and cal Curt. About 40 metres on, on the right, the path of les Valls de Foix branches off, but we will continue straight on, to cross the torrent of cal Rossell 150 metres later. After this torrent, we will walk about 500 metres until we reach the ruins of ca l’Isidrot, located on the right-hand side of the track; we will continue along it for about sixty metres and we will see a field on the left. The track turns to the left; a few metres further on we will find a somewhat lost path, which branches off to the right towards the river; we will go down heading SE, and we will leave it by descending through a gully until we reach the first cliff, where this cave is located on the left. The cliff is more or less the same as that of the cova de cal Magí Rossell (cave of cal Magí Rossell).

Description

Morphology

The entrance is about 3 metres wide by 1.50 high; it leads us into a small chamber, where after 4 metres of passage we will continue through the fissure on the right for about 5 more metres along a gallery about 2.80 metres high. The continuation, quite obvious, is found in a blowing crawlway of 0.40×0.40 metres with a small step and in the shape of a “four”, very selective. It is a fissure where the clastic process is evident, with large blocks detached from the ceiling.

Progression

The continuation, quite obvious, is found in a blowing crawlway of 0.40×0.40 metres with a small step and in the shape of a “four”, very selective. So selective that none of the four explorers (GEB; CE Castellar, 2017) were able to get through.

History

Discovered and explored in 1959 by members of the ERE-AEC of Vilafranca del Penedès, who give it a passage of 25 metres and a very narrow 19-metre shaft, which they say they descended with difficulty (brief note in Cordada no. 42, 1959). During the 1980s the GREV (Vilanova i la Geltrú) carried out intense prospecting in this area and visited the cave, as can be inferred from the sign painted at the entrance, but they did not publish their results. In 1982 archaeological materials were collected on the surface. The cavity was forgotten until 2017, when the usual prospectors of the G.E. Badalona and the C.E. Castellar located it, covered by vegetation, exploring and surveying the horizontal entrance section, being unable to get past the narrowness that supposedly leads to the 19-metre shaft mentioned in 1959.
