Cave with a 22 m route in Castellet i la Gornal (Alt Penedès), with two entrances and galleries that become impenetrable.

Characteristics

Location

The cavity is located in Castellet i la Gornal (Alt Penedès). The car is left at km 9 of the road from Vilanova i la Geltrú to Castellet (BV-2115), near the Casa de l'Enginyer. One continues on foot in the direction of Vilanova for about 300 metres. One must find a place to climb the left bank of the road and continue in the opposite direction gaining height. The cavity is located about 2 or 3 metres above the base of a cliff.

Description

Morphology

The cavity opens to the outside by means of two entrances. The larger one, 2.8 metres wide and 2 metres high, gives way to a gallery that progressively loses height and width until it becomes impenetrable at 17 metres from the entrance. The second entrance, smaller (0.6 m wide and 0.8 m high), located slightly below the first, has a 5 metre route until it meets the main gallery; halfway along the gallery it also communicates with the main gallery. The total route is 22 m.

Other details

Archaeological excavations have emptied the floor of sediments and it is full of small-sized blocks.

History

Known since time immemorial.
