Despite the importance this cavity had had because of the size of its entrance, Collado and Sandoval (1999) say they were unable to find out the name by which it is known in the area, although it appears photographed in a postcard from the beginning of the 20th century, where one can see that the original entrance was about 9 metres wide and 18 metres high, before the destructive action of a construction company completely collapsed the great portico of the mouth while making the foundations of the villas. It is not known exactly when this event occurred, but it was not until the storms of November 1997 that what remains of this cave was uncovered.

As J. de Valles (2010) indicates in his catalogue, it is more than likely that this cavity is the one known as Cova de la Catedral, mentioned by J. Senent (1963) in his work on the Cova de les Rates Penades.
