Cova Foradada

Petita cova de 25 m. de recorregut a Calafell (Baix Penedès)

Calafell • Baix Penedès25m4m

Small cave with a 25 m passage in Calafell (Baix Penedès), with three entrances and archaeological excavations.

Characteristics

Location

The cavity is located in Calafell (Baix Penedès). From Calafell, take the Bellvei road (C-31). Just before crossing the C-32 motorway there is a roundabout, where you take the turnoff that leads to Mas Romeu. The road soon leads to another roundabout and then crosses under the C-31 road. From this point, follow the road for 850 metres until you are beneath the power line, where you leave the car. Go up along the firebreak in an E direction and, at the point where the descent begins, follow a path that heads off in a S direction. After crossing two hills, the cavity is easily found at the second col.

Description

Morphology

The cavity has three entrances. The lower entrance is the most accessible; it is rounded in shape and measures 2.2 x 2.4 metres. It gives access to a small chamber where archaeological excavations were carried out. The entire floor is covered with plastic sheeting in order to preserve the archaeological remains.

Progression

A block makes it easier to climb a small upward step that leads to a ramp that also ascends. In the ceiling there is a hole through which one can easily exit to the outside (this is the upper entrance). If you continue climbing, you exit to the outside through the third entrance.

History

Known since time immemorial, although it had remained unpublished in speleological circles, even though it is very well known in the area and, following the discovery of a human skull in 1997, it has been the subject of several archaeological interventions.
