Spring in the area of the Ullals de la Carrova (Amposta), open in the rock of the main spring; normally flooded, it was left practically dry by the drought until the summer of 2024.

Location

Access is from kilometre 6.9 of the C-12 road; follow the track that gives access to the Simó quarry; before reaching it, turn right, passing beside the Torre de la Carrova, and follow the Vial de la Val de Zafán; after 600 metres, turn left to go to the Ullals de la Carrova; the spring is right beside the largest lagoon.

Description

Morphology

The mouth opens in the rock of what would be the main water spring of the Ullals de la Carrova. After the first 8 metres the gallery turns right about 45 degrees; some 15 metres were covered; it seems to continue.

Hydrology

The cave is normally flooded with water, but due to the long period of drought until the summer of 2024, the spring was left practically dry, allowing access.

Progression

En Martí Soriano, taking advantage of the 2024 drought, explored it over about fifteen metres.

History

The area of the Ullals de la Carrova, also known as Ullal de Boscasso, forms part of the Natura 2000 Network. It has been known since ancient times, but speleologically there was no reference to any cavity.
