Characteristics

Location

In Masdenverge, starting at the sewage treatment plant, we will follow the camí de Sant Pau, which runs along the hydrographic left bank of the Rambla de la Galera. After one and a half kilometres from the sewage treatment plant we will reach the Mas de Sant Pau; it is in a ruined state; in fact there is a wire fence surrounding the Mas to prevent accidents. You must go around the fence to the rear part of the Mas and line up with the wall on the south side of the Mas, where we will find the cavity with the spring that flows out from inside.

Description

Morphology

It is a small and narrow cave, with the entrance modified for the use of the water that springs from inside. According to the information available from the 70s of the past century from the Grup d'Ulldecona, the cave would be about 25 metres long.

Hydrology

Currently, even in times of drought, a pool of water from the gatera forms at the mouth. Despite the green colour of the water in the pool, produced by the algae, the water that comes out from inside is clean.

Progression

Faced with the guaranteed soaking and the sight of the narrowness of the gatera with water and, that it leads nowhere, we made a prudent retreat.

History

It seems to have been known since ancient times. The water from the spring was used by the nearby Mas de Sant Pau, currently in ruins. The only and few data that were available were provided more than 40 years ago by our colleague Joaquim Virgili of the Grup Espeleològic d'Ulldecona.
