Location

On the TP-2401 road at la Joncosa del Montmell and above km 7, take the turnoff towards the Montmell recreational area; we will drive along the track for 1.7 Km, leaving behind the turnoffs towards the Granja de la Dou and the Masia Nova; at this point we will take an uphill path from the same right-hand bend of the track that climbs up to the same recreational area and near the cliffs below the Puig de les Forques; from the track we will walk about 250m until reaching the base of the cliffs where the cave is located; from it the village of la Joncosa del Montmell can be glimpsed.

Description

Morphology

Cave with two possible entrances, located at each end of the main chamber of approximately 7x5m. The main entrance, of comfortable dimensions, allows direct entry into the chamber; the second allows access to the main chamber through a descending crawlway.

In the main chamber the ceiling is relatively low except at one end point of the hall where it reaches 2m, and it is possible to stand perfectly upright there. Towards the centre of the hall a large block and a possible archaeological test pit can be seen.

History

Known since time immemorial by the people of the region. First mentioned in the Catàlech (1897) by Font i Sagué and in all subsequent ones, but without providing data. It is not until May 2022 that Jordi Navarro and Montse Mañosa (Centre Excursionista Castellar) locate it and carry out the documentation work to include it in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (2023).
