Cova de la Pesseta

Petita cova d'interès arqueològic a Torrelles de Foix

Torrelles de Foix • Alt Penedès8m2m

Small cave of archaeological interest in Torrelles de Foix, discovered and explored in the late 1970's by members of the Associació d'Estudis Científics i Culturals de Mediona.

Characteristics

Location

Access is from the BP-2121 road (Vilafranca del Penedès-La Llacuna). At km 20.37, shortly after passing the houses of les Llambardes, there is a turnoff to the left that by a track leads to the farmhouse of Can Soler de Secabecs. From here one must follow the camí de Llambardes to the coll de Cal General and continue in a SE direction skirting a cultivated field and then straight on towards the SE until reaching the upper part of the cliff that dominates the Foix valley. One can also go as far as finding the foradada (Abric-Túnel de Secabecs) which allows one to go to the other side of the cliff, where along a path that skirts it, one passes the Cova de Can Soler de Secabecs and continues on for a hundred metres. Difficult to locate due to the small dimensions of the entrance.

Description

Morphology

Outside, just in front of the entrance, there is a trench 5m long x 1m wide x 0.5 deep, which was surely made during the archaeological interventions. The cave entrance is at ground level and round in shape, about 40cm in diameter. It is a crawlway of 1.5m that, once passed, places us in a room of 5x3m, with a low ceiling where we can only stand upright just in the centre. From this chamber two very short passages emerge, on the right a short chimney and on the left, through a very narrow and slightly ascending passage, one reaches a small raised chamber.

History

As recorded in the Archaeological Heritage file (invarque.gencat), the cave was discovered and explored in the late 1970's by members of the Associació d'Estudis Científics i Culturals de Mediona. The materials collected so far are entirely similar and of the same chronology as those of the neighbouring Cova de Can Soler de Secabecs.
