Gallifa • Vallès Occidental30m3m

A 30-metre-long cave at Coll d'Ases (Gallifa), known as the Complex de les Falgueres.

Characteristics

Location

From Castellterçol we will follow the BV-1245 road towards Granera; after kilometre 2 we will turn left onto the paved track towards Coll d'Ases and Gallifa. After about 7 kilometres we will reach Coll d'Ases, where on the right-hand side and right next to the traffic signs a path sets off, which we will follow until we find an iron pole where the path splits; we will keep to the left, which will take us to the base of the cliff where we will find some cairns. We will soon find the first of the caves a little more than 250 metres from Coll d'Ases.

Description

Morphology

It is a network of perpendicular joints on one main joint. It has an entrance with a double opening; a few metres further on, following the cliff, we find a larger opening that leads to a gallery climbing upwards. On the left we find a narrow gallery with an upper level; following the entrance gallery a couple of metres to the right we find the gallery that comes from the other entrance. From here the galleries cross and gradually narrow until they become impenetrable. The route is 30 metres with a height difference of +3 metres.

Other details

This group of cavities is known among hikers as the Coves de Coll d'Ases; the Matagalls-Montserrat route even passes right below them.

History

Located by members of the SIS del CE Terrassa after the fire of 2003, in November 2005 Jordi Guillemot surveyed them and named them “Complex de les Falgueres” after the place name that appears on a nearby hill and that on the Editorial Alpina map is georeferenced as Coll de les Falgueres, but on the current ICGC map this place name does not appear anywhere.
