Cova de la Canal del Sant

Cova de la Canal del Sant

Petita cova ascendent a La Quar (Berguedà).

Quar, La • Berguedà32m20m

Small ascending cave in La Quar (Berguedà), with a +20 metre chimney. Hiding place of emboscats during the civil war (1936-39); located and explored by Nil Hosta in May 2026.

Characteristics

Location

Leaving Vilada on the C-26 towards Borredà, we will have to go about two kilometres to the Pont del Climent, where we find a sign that says Canals de Sant Miquel, the point where we will leave the vehicle. We will go on foot, crossing the Pont del Climent and following the wide path to the left, which is the camí ral that goes to Borredà; once we have covered about 750 metres, on the right (South) the corriol de la Portelleta branches off, which we will follow while going up the Rec de la Portelleta until we reach the Canal del Sant, which will be on our left (N-NW) and which we will have to go up without a path, heading for the walls that will be on our right (South).

Description

Morphology

A short ascending ramp places us on a ledge. From here, on the left wall a chimney rises up to +20 metres of height difference from the entrance, with a ledge encountered partway up; halfway up we find on the right a small concavity of 4x2 metres; at this point we are level with the upper part of the entrance, entering fully into the ascending chimney.

Progression

Following the walls with a strong climb, we will reach below the cave; from here we will have to scramble up about 30 metres along a fairly steep grassy slope, and overcome a vertical step of 2.30 metres (aim was needed to pass the rope through an oak to overcome the step); once this is overcome we are already at the entrance of the cave.

History

Cavity used as a hiding place by emboscats during the civil war (1936-39).

Nil Hosta, familiar with the history of the emboscats, located and explored it in May 2026.
